Alice Davies
I am an British artist, currently based in Oslo. I tell material stories using sculpture, installation and time-based works, utilising clay as a grounding point where ideas stem from. I love to work with clay, an earth based and ancient material which allows me an intimate insight into my geo/physical surroundings and the liveliness of it. This animism of matter is an important aspect to my practice, reinforced by my interest in western esotericism annd alchemy. My practice is led by material investigations, experimentation, reactions, observations, and researching material histories. Through these investigations I highlight threads between the natural world and material culture, in the hope of a connection with the more-than-human world.
I studied a BA in Painting at Camberwell College of Arts in London (2019), and more recently finished my MFA in Material and Medium Based Art, at National Academy of Arts in Oslo, specialising in Ceramics. (2024) My work has recently been included in exhibitions in Oslo at Kunstnernes Hus, Galleri Seilduken and RAM Galleri, and in London and Margate at Well Projects, Studio 69, AMP Gallery and Grove Collective.
I have professional experience in community-based art and facilitate socially engaged workshops, where sharing stories and making are tools for increased wellbeing, social justice and collective action. Recent projects include ceramic workshops at Bethlem Royal Hospital with live-in patients, workshop leader at the CIC ‘Art4Space’ and assisting the project ‘Clay for Dementia’ at The Garden Museum in London.
